On May 1, 1999, Nickelodeon previewed SpongeBob SquarePants for the first time. The series officially premiered on July 17, 1999, introducing audiences to the underwater world of Bikini Bottom and its quirky inhabitants. Annoy Squidward Day first appeared in the ‘Employee of the Month’ episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, Squidward, in a moment of exasperation with SpongeBob, jokingly declares it to be Annoy Squidward Day.

During the episode, a character inquired of Squidward, "What day is it?" Known for his irritable nature, Squidward retorted, "Annoy Squidward Day."

Squidward Tentacles works as a cashier at the Krusty Krab restaurant in the series. Despite the job’s simplicity, Squidward often finds himself not enjoying it, primarily due to the antics of his co-worker, SpongeBob.

Squidward is portrayed as a character with a complex personality. He is often short-tempered, impatient, arrogant, sassy, introverted, condescending, bitter, and misanthropic. His constant annoyance with SpongeBob and Patrick’s antics is a recurring theme in the series.

Squidward lives in a constant state of self-pity and misery, largely due to his dissatisfaction with his mundane lifestyle. He yearns for a life of celebrity status, wealth, and a glamorous and distinguished career as a musician or painter, reflecting his artistic and creative aspirations.

The Krusty Krab restaurant, where Squidward works as a cashier, is owned by Mr. Krabs. Mr. Krabs is a shrewd businessman who is primarily concerned with making money.

Despite having “squid” in his name, Squidward is actually an anthropomorphic octopus. This is evident from his physical appearance, which includes six tentacles, a characteristic feature of octopuses.
