1. When we say the shahaadah, why do we combine saying "Laa ilaaha ill allaah" (There is nothing worthy of worship except Allaah) with saying "Muhammad ur rasool ullaah" (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah)?

Explanation

The answer states that no act of worship is complete unless it is done in the way that the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) taught us. This is because the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) is the Messenger of Allaah and he received guidance from Allaah on how to worship Him. Therefore, by combining the shahaadah with the statement "Muhammad ur rasool ullaah," we acknowledge the importance of following the teachings and example of the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) in our worship.

2. Establishing the prayer is a pillar of Islaam. But what does it mean?

Explanation

The correct answer is to perform the prayer properly as it has been described in the Qur-aan and in the authentic hadeeths. This means following the guidance and instructions given in the Islamic scriptures to ensure that the prayer is performed correctly and in accordance with the teachings of Islam. It involves understanding the proper postures, recitations, and actions during the prayer and adhering to them with sincerity and devotion.

6. Islam has five pillars. Give the exact order of these pillars as given in this hadeeth.

Explanation

Although this question may seem a little too easy, the five pillars are mentioned again in the next hadeeth (Lesson 5), but a different order is given.

The next five questions here cover the five pillars, one question for each.

7. When explaining the words in the hadeeth relating to the Hajj, Shaykh al Uthaymeen quotes part of the Quraan: "So have taqwaa (be mindful of the commands and prohibitions) of Allaah as much as you are able to." (Soorah At Taghaabun, 64:16) This is the proof that establishes a key principle which is not just relevant for Hajj. What is that principle?

Explanation

The principle established by the quoted Quranic verse is that an action of worship is not obligatory unless you have the ability to do it. This means that one is only obligated to perform acts of worship that they are capable of doing. It emphasizes the importance of being mindful of one's limitations and not burdening oneself with actions that they are unable to fulfill.

8. The zakaah (obligatory payment of wealth) can only be given to 8 causes mentioned in soorah At Tawbah of the Quraan. (Not all those eligible for zakaah payment are poor so "charity" is not the best translation for the zakaah!) Which 3 of these causes are NOT covered in the list of 8?

Explanation

Zakaah can only be paid to the 8 categories listed in the Quraan (soorah At Tawbah, aayah 60). It is not to be paid to every good cause.

Submit
9. A definition of fasting Ramadaan is: "To worship Allaah, the Perfect and Most High, by abstaining from the things that break/nullify the fast from the time of sunrise until sunset."

Explanation

The start time of the fast is not the time of sunrise. The start of the fast is the start of fajr (dawn prayer).

10. What was the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) doing when the unknown man appeared?

Explanation

It is better to mix with the people than to seclude yourself off from them so long as you do not fear for your religion by being with them.
