Always pick it up from its under and if their tail is swinging side-to-side, they are unbalanced and a little scared.

What kind of cage do you buy for them???

Cage! Aquariam! Cage! Aquariam! Oh, I'll just copy off the geeky rat guy!

A cage with the bars not TOO apart, no floor wiring, it gives your rat bumblefoot and cause more ammonia so you have to clean it more often.

A container. They are dirty creatures and if i found one, i'd just get some gloves and a container with poked holes in the lid.
