Lesson 2 - Hadeeth 2 Of Nawawi 40 - Jibreel Part 1 - Quiz

I hope you liked the first quiz. We are moving on now to the longest hadeeth in the book, the Hadeeth of Jibreel, which we hope to cover over three weeks. Please read the Explanation of Nawawi's 40 Hadeeths by Shyakh Al-Uthaymeen, available in English. If you are not memorising the hadeeths, then you might wish to skip the first two questions in each set. May Allaah help all those who intend to do good, grant them the ability to do righteous deeds and reward them abundantly.

When we say the shahaadah, why do we combine saying "Laa ilaaha ill allaah" (There is nothing worthy of worship except Allaah) with saying "Muhammad ur rasool ullaah" (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah)?

    • A.

No act of worship we do is complete even if it is for Allaah’s sake unless we do that act in the way that the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) taught us to do it

    • B.

It is both Allaah and the Messenger (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) whom we must worship

    • C.

We should love the Messenger (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) more than we love Allaah

    • D.

Allaah and the Messenger (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) are one and the same person

    Correct Answer
    A. No act of worship we do is complete even if it is for Allaah’s sake unless we do that act in the way that the PropHet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) taught us to do it
    Explanation
The answer states that no act of worship is complete unless it is done in the way that the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) taught us. This is because the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) is the Messenger of Allaah and he received guidance from Allaah on how to worship Him. Therefore, by combining the shahaadah with the statement "Muhammad ur rasool ullaah," we acknowledge the importance of following the teachings and example of the Prophet (sall Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) in our worship.

When explaining the words in the hadeeth relating to the Hajj, Shaykh al Uthaymeen quotes part of the Quraan: "So have taqwaa (be mindful of the commands and prohibitions) of Allaah as much as you are able to." (Soorah At Taghaabun, 64:16) This is the proof that establishes a key principle which is not just relevant for Hajj. What is that principle?

    • A.

Allaah likes to restrict a person's ability to perform good deeds

    • B.

It is not prohibited when there is a necessity

    • C.

If you have the ability to do any action of worship, then it is obligatory for you to do it - no matter what that act of worship is

    • D.

Actions are only in accordance with the intentions behind them

    • E.

An action of worship is not obligatory unless you have the ability to do it

    Correct Answer
    E. An action of worship is not obligatory unless you have the ability to do it
    Explanation
The principle established by the quoted Quranic verse is that an action of worship is not obligatory unless you have the ability to do it. This means that one is only obligated to perform acts of worship that they are capable of doing. It emphasizes the importance of being mindful of one's limitations and not burdening oneself with actions that they are unable to fulfill.
