Term 2 Week 6 Algebra Part A - Quiz

You may use your calculator for all questions. You will need a piece of paper and pencil for working out. Both Part A and Part B need to be completed each week. 2 parts have been created as you cannot save your work - it must be finished once you start. For this reason I have spilt the worksheet into 2 parts so that you can do 1 part over 2 different nights if you choose.

    Expand......

    Explanation
We need to times the term outside the bracket with all terms inside the bracket so...

    first we 3 times x giving 3x

    then we 3 times -12 giving -36

3x and -36 are not like terms so we cannot operate on them.

    so our answer is 3x-36

    Expand...

    Explanation
We need to times the term outside the bracket with all terms inside the bracket so...

    first we 8 times 6 giving 48

    then we 8 times -a giving -8a

48 and -8a are not like terms so we cannot operate on them.

    so our answer is 48-8a

Write the sentence as an equation.. Use 'n' for the missing number.

    Explanation
The equation 2n-3=1 represents a mathematical sentence where an unknown number, represented by 'n', is multiplied by 2 and then subtracted by 3. The result of this operation is equal to 1.

    Rate this question:

  • 14.

Write the sentence as an equation.. Use 'n' for the missing number.

    Explanation
To solve the equation 4n + 2 = 22, we need to isolate the variable 'n'. Firstly, we subtract 2 from both sides of the equation to get 4n = 20. Then, we divide both sides by 4 to solve for 'n'. Therefore, the correct equation is 4n = 5.

    Rate this question:

  • 15.

Write the sentence as an equation.. Use 'n' for the missing number.

    Explanation
The given equation is (20/n) + 5 = 7. To solve for n, we need to isolate the term with n. Subtracting 5 from both sides, we get (20/n) = 2. Multiplying both sides by n, we get 20 = 2n. Dividing both sides by 2, we find that n = 10.

    Rate this question:

  • 16.

Write the sentence as an equation.. Use 'n' for the missing number.

    Explanation
The equation 7n-4=31 is the correct answer because it correctly represents the given sentence in an equation form. The equation states that when 7 is multiplied by a number (n) and then subtracted by 4, the result is equal to 31.

  • 17.

Write the sentence as an equation.. Use 'n' for the missing number.

    Explanation
The equation n+12=17 represents a mathematical expression where n is the missing number. By subtracting 12 from both sides of the equation, we can isolate the variable n. This simplifies the equation to n=5, which means that the missing number is 5.

  • 19.

    Find the value of z.

  • 20.

    Find the value of y.

    Explanation
The given equation is y = 2.5. This means that the value of y is equal to 2.5.

  • 21.

    Find the value of y.

  • 22.

    Find the value of c.

    Explanation
The given equation states that c is equal to -5 and -5. This means that c has two possible values, both of which are -5.

  • 23.

    Find the value of y.

  • 24.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given answer suggests that the missing value in the box is "x" and it is equal to -36, -72, 60.

    Rate this question:

  • 25.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given answer is correct because it completes the pattern established in the box. The pattern follows a sequence where each number is multiplied by -2 to get the next number. Therefore, starting with 18, we multiply it by -2 to get -36, and then multiply -36 by -2 to get 54. The next number in the sequence would be 54 multiplied by -2, which is -108. Therefore, x is equal to -108. So, the complete box is 18, -36, 54, -108.

    Rate this question:

  • 26.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given answer 0,45,96 completes the box by filling in the missing numbers. The pattern seems to be an increasing sequence with a difference of 45 between each number. Therefore, starting from 0, the next number is 45, and the number after that is 90. Hence, the missing numbers are 45 and 90, resulting in the completed box: 0, 45, 96.

    Rate this question:

  • 27.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given answer is a repetition of the given numbers in the box, followed by the variable x and then the same numbers again. This suggests that the variable x is equal to the numbers in the box, which are 0, -5, and -10. Therefore, the correct answer is 0, -5, -10, x=0, -5, -10.

    Rate this question:

  • 28.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given question asks for the missing value in the box, which is represented by "x". The answer provided suggests that the missing value is the same as the original set of numbers given, which is 29, -76, and 50. Therefore, the complete box would be 29, -76, 50, x=29, -76, 50.

    Rate this question:

  • 29.

Complete the box.  Separate your answers with a comma, eg 3,56,90

    Explanation
The given question asks to complete the box by separating the answers with a comma. The numbers given in the box are 4, 4.5, and 2. The answer provided is 4, 4.5, 2, x=4, 4.5, 2. This suggests that the missing value in the box is represented by the variable x, which is equal to 4, 4.5, and 2. Therefore, the complete box would be 4, 4.5, 2, x=4, 4.5, 2.
