By 1922, the Fascists had become powerful enough to force the king of Italy to make Mussolini prime minister. Benito Mussolini began to create a dictatorship. He abolished all political parties in Italy except the Fascist Party and seized control of industries, newspapers, police, and schools. He took the title Il Duce (The Leader).
Hammurabi ruled Babylonia from 1792 to 1750 B.C. He made his kingdom bigger, and it became the first great Babylonian empire. An empire is a group of states or nations under one ruler or government. He also put together one of the earliest groups of written laws, the Code of Hammurabi. The code was famous for setting up fair laws.
In 27 B.C., the Senate gave Octavian the name Augustus,which was a title of honor. That year, the Senate also began to give Augustus legal power over Rome and its territories. Under Augustus, the Roman Empire doubled in size. His rule brought peace and wealth to Rome.
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna > (1795?-1876) was a Mexican soldier and politician. He was president of Mexico 11 times and often ruled as a dictator (all-powerful ruler), but he was always overthrown.

Peter the Great (1672-1725) was one of the most famous rulers in history. He ruled first as czar >, or king, of Russia. Later, he became Russia's first emperor, which means that he ruled other countries in addition to Russia. Peter became czar at the age of 10, but others ruled in his place until he was 17.
Victoria (1819-1901) was queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Victoria was only 18 years old when she became queen, but she is one of the most famous rulers in her country's history. She ruled the United Kingdom longer than any other king or queen in British history.
V. I. Lenin > (1870-1924) was the founder of the Communist Party in Russia. He led the October Revolution of 1917, in which the Communists seized power in Russia. He then ruled the country until his death in 1924.
Shi Huangdi > (259?-210 B.C.), also spelled Shih Huang-ti, was a Chinese emperor who founded the Qin dynasty (221–206 B.C.). He created the first united Chinese empire and began construction of the Great Wall of China. His name means first emperor.
