This Online Certificate Course Meets and exceed the NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents - Awareness Level and NFPA 704. 

Students will view a user 4 user friendly PowerPoints and then be tested for competency at the end of the online course.

- One re-write of exam is allowed.
  
Awareness Training is for individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release. They are also trained to define a hazardous material and its risks, recognize a release, identify the material if possible, and identify the need for additional resources, such as the area Hazmat Team. This includes Law Enforcement, Security, Fire and EMS personnel.

This Courses meets and exceeds NFPA 472, Awareness Level Training which is required for NFPA 1031, Fire Inspector Certification Level 1.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Provincial OSHA programs, a responder at the Awareness Level must have:

An understanding of hazardous substances and the risks associated with them in an emergencyAn understanding of the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are presentThe ability to recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergencyThe ability to realize the need for additional resources and to provide good information to the communication centre.
