From height of 8 mts a ball fell down and each time it bounces half the distnace back. What will be the distance travelled
Correct Answer
24 meters, 24 mts, 24
Explanation
The ball falls from a height of 8 meters and each time it bounces, it covers half the distance back. This means that after the first bounce, it reaches a height of 4 meters. After the second bounce, it reaches a height of 2 meters. After the third bounce, it reaches a height of 1 meter. After the fourth bounce, it reaches a height of 0.5 meters. Since the ball never reaches a height of 0 meters, it will continue bouncing infinitely, but the total distance traveled will be the sum of the distances covered during each bounce. The sum of an infinite geometric series with a first term of 8 meters and a common ratio of 1/2 is 24 meters. Therefore, the distance traveled by the ball is 24 meters.
8.
If a man walks at the rate of 5kmph, he misses a train by only 7min. However if he walks at the rate of 6 kmph he reaches the station 5 minutes before the arrival of the train.Find the distance covered by him to reach the station.
Correct Answer
6 km, 6km
Explanation
Let's assume the distance covered by the man to reach the station is 'd' km.
When the man walks at 5 kmph, he misses the train by 7 minutes. This means that the time taken to cover the distance 'd' at 5 kmph is 7 minutes more than the time taken by the train to cover the same distance.
Similarly, when the man walks at 6 kmph, he reaches the station 5 minutes before the arrival of the train. This means that the time taken to cover the distance 'd' at 6 kmph is 5 minutes less than the time taken by the train to cover the same distance.
By comparing the two scenarios, we can conclude that the time taken by the train to cover the distance 'd' is 12 minutes.
Using the formula: Speed = Distance/Time, we can calculate the distance covered by the train as 5 kmph * (12/60) hours = 1 km.
Therefore, the distance covered by the man to reach the station is 'd' km, which is equal to the distance covered by the train, i.e., 1 km. So, the answer is 1 km.
9.
If A can copy 50 pages in 10 hours and A and B together can copy 70 pages in 10 hours, how much time does B takes to copy 26 pages?
Correct Answer
B. 13 hrs
Explanation
If A can copy 50 pages in 10 hours, it means A can copy 5 pages per hour.
If A and B together can copy 70 pages in 10 hours, it means they can copy 7 pages per hour.
Therefore, B can copy 7 - 5 = 2 pages per hour.
To copy 26 pages, B would take 26 / 2 = 13 hours.

A box of 150 packets consists of 1kg packets and 2kg packets. Total weight of box is 264kg. How many 2kg packets are there ?
Correct Answer
A. 114
Explanation
Let's assume that there are x 1kg packets and y 2kg packets in the box. From the given information, we can set up two equations: x + y = 150 (since there are 150 packets in total) and x + 2y = 264 (since the total weight of the box is 264kg). By solving these equations, we can find that there are 114 2kg packets in the box.

A person was fined for exceeding the speed limit by 10mph.another person was also fined for exceeding the same speed limit by twice the same if the second person was travelling at a speed of 35 mph. find the speed limit?
Correct Answer
C. 15 mpH
Explanation
The first person exceeded the speed limit by 10 mph. If we let the speed limit be x mph, then the first person was traveling at (x+10) mph. The second person exceeded the speed limit by twice the amount, so they were traveling at (x+2(10)) mph, which is equal to 35 mph. Simplifying the equation, we get x+20=35, and solving for x gives us x=15 mph, which is the speed limit.
12.
Joe's father will be twice his age 6 years from now. His mother was twice his age 2 years before. If Joe will be 24 two years
from now, what is the difference between his father's and mother's age?
Correct Answer
C. 8
Explanation
Joe's age two years from now will be 24, so his current age is 24 - 2 = 22. His father will be twice his age 6 years from now, so his father's age will be 22 * 2 = 44. His mother was twice his age 2 years before, so her age 2 years ago was 22 * 2 = 44. Therefore, the difference between his father's and mother's age is 44 - 44 = 0.

With 4/5 full tank vehicle travels 12 miles, with 1/3 full tank how much distance travels?
Correct Answer
D. 5 miles
Explanation
If the vehicle can travel 12 miles with a 4/5 full tank, it means that each 1/5 of the tank allows the vehicle to travel 3 miles. Therefore, with a 1/3 full tank (which is equivalent to 2/6 or 4/12), the vehicle will be able to travel 4/12 of the distance it can travel with a full tank. So, 4/12 of 12 miles is equal to 4 miles.
15.
I lost Rs.68 in two races. My second race loss is Rs.6 more than the first race. My friend lost Rs.4 more than me in the second race. What is the amount lost by my friend in the second race?
Correct Answer
C. 41
Explanation
In the first race, the person lost x amount of money. In the second race, they lost x + 6 amount of money. So, the total amount lost in the second race is 2(x + 6). The person lost a total of Rs. 68 in both races. Therefore, we can set up the equation x + 2(x + 6) = 68. Solving this equation, we find that x = 26. So, the person lost Rs. 26 in the first race and Rs. 32 in the second race. The friend lost Rs. 4 more than the person in the second race, so the amount lost by the friend in the second race is Rs. 32 + 4 = 41.
16.
A bus started from bus stand at 8.00am, and after staying for 30 minutes at a destination, it returned back to the bus stand. The destination is 27 miles from the bus stand. The speed of the bus is 18mph. During the return journey the bus travels with 50% faster speed. At what time does it return to the bus stand?
Correct Answer
C. 11 a.m.
Explanation
The bus travels at a speed of 18 mph from the bus stand to the destination, which is 27 miles away. Therefore, it takes 27/18 = 1.5 hours or 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the destination. After staying for 30 minutes at the destination, the bus starts its return journey. During the return journey, the bus travels with 50% faster speed, which is 18 + (50/100)*18 = 27 mph. The distance from the destination to the bus stand is also 27 miles. Therefore, it takes 27/27 = 1 hour to return to the bus stand. Adding the 30 minutes stay at the destination, the total time taken for the return journey is 1 hour + 30 minutes = 1 hour and 30 minutes. Therefore, the bus returns to the bus stand at 8:00 am + 1 hour and 30 minutes = 9:30 am.
17.
A fisherman's day is rated as good if he catches 9 fishes, fair if 7 fishes and bad if 5 fishes. He catches 53 fishes in a week n had all good, fair n bad days in the week. So how many good, fair n bad days did the fisher man had in the week
Correct Answer
A. 4 good, 1 fair, 2 bad
Explanation
The fisherman caught a total of 53 fish in a week. Since a good day is rated as catching 9 fish, the fisherman must have had 4 good days (4 x 9 = 36 fish). Similarly, a fair day is rated as catching 7 fish, so the fisherman must have had 1 fair day (1 x 7 = 7 fish). Lastly, a bad day is rated as catching 5 fish, so the fisherman must have had 2 bad days (2 x 5 = 10 fish). Therefore, the fisherman had 4 good days, 1 fair day, and 2 bad days in the week.
18.
A face of the clock is divided into three parts. First part hours total is equal to the sum of the second and third part. What is the total of hours in the bigger part?
Correct Answer
C. 6 hrs
Explanation
The face of the clock is divided into three parts. Let's assume the hours in the first part are x, hours in the second part are y, and hours in the third part are z. According to the given information, x = y + z. We need to find the total hours in the bigger part, which is x. Since x = y + z, the total hours in the bigger part is equal to the sum of the hours in the second and third part. Therefore, the total hours in the bigger part is 6 hours.
19.
What number should be added to or subtracted from each term of the ratio 17 : 24 so that it becomes equal to 1 : 2.
Correct Answer
D. 10 should be subtracted
Explanation
To make the ratio 17:24 equal to 1:2, we need to find a number that can be added or subtracted from both terms of the original ratio. In this case, we need to find a number that can be subtracted. By subtracting 10 from both 17 and 24, the ratio becomes 7:14, which is equal to 1:2. Therefore, 10 should be subtracted from each term of the ratio to make it equal to 1:2.
20.
A stationary engine has enough fuel to run 12 hours when its tank is 4/5 full. How long will it run when the tank is 1/3 full?
Correct Answer
D. 5 hours
Explanation
When the tank is 4/5 full, it can run for 12 hours. This means that 1/5 of the tank's capacity can power the engine for 12 hours. To find out how long it will run when the tank is 1/3 full, we need to determine how many times 1/5 of the tank's capacity can fit into 1/3.
1/3 ÷ 1/5 = 5/3
So, 1/5 of the tank's capacity can fit into 1/3 of the tank 5/3 times. Since 1/5 of the tank's capacity can power the engine for 12 hours, 5/3 times that amount will power the engine for 5/3 times 12 hours, which is equal to 20 hours. Therefore, the engine will run for 20 hours when the tank is 1/3 full.
21.
If the length of a rectangle is increased by 30% and the width is decreased by 20%, then the area is increased by?
Correct Answer
C. 4%
Explanation
When the length of a rectangle is increased by 30%, it becomes 1.3 times its original length. Similarly, when the width is decreased by 20%, it becomes 0.8 times its original width. The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying its length and width. Therefore, the new area is 1.3 times 0.8, which is 1.04 times the original area. This means that the area is increased by 4%.
22.
A salesperson by mistake multiplied a number and got the answer as 3, instead of dividing the number by 3.What is the
answer he should have actually got?
Correct Answer
B. 1/3
Explanation
The salesperson made a mistake by multiplying the number instead of dividing it by 3. To find the correct answer, we need to undo the multiplication and divide the answer by 3. If the incorrect answer is 3, then dividing it by 3 will give us the correct answer of 1. Therefore, the salesperson should have actually got the answer of 1/3.
23.
The sum of ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years. What is the age of the youngest child?
Correct Answer
A. 4 years
Explanation
Let the ages of children be x, (x + 3), (x + 6), (x + 9) and (x + 12) years.
Then, x + (x + 3) + (x + 6) + (x + 9) + (x + 12) = 50
5x = 20
x = 4.
Age of the youngest child = x = 4 years.

A father's age is five times his son's age. Four years ago the father was 9 times older than his son. How old are the father and son at present?
Correct Answer
C. 40yrs and 8yrs
Explanation
You can solve this by rough estimation given you have multiple choice here. You can quickly see that each of the first 3 answers satisfy the condition that the father is currently 5 times the age of the son.
By subtracting 4 years from each age in each answer you will see them as follows:
a: 26 and 2
b: 21 and 1
c: 36 and 4
Now it is clear that the answer is c: 40 and 8 (because 4 x 9 = 36 and 5 x 8 = 40). These questions are why it is important to learn your multiplication tables prior to testing.
26.
How is my mother's sister's brother's wife's child related to me?
Correct Answer
C. Cousin
Explanation
There is an extra relation here to confuse you. The mother's sister's brother is of course the mother's brother. And the brother's wife's child is also the brother's child.
So now you can read it as the mother's brother's child. This is easier to identify the answer as your cousin.

A, e, i, m, q, u, _, _
Correct Answer
A. Y, c
Explanation
The letters are increasing by four increments. You can count this on your hand like this:
Thumb: a
Pointer Finger: b
Middle Finger c
Third finger: d
Pinky finger: e
This shows that each letter is on the thumb and pinky. Make sure you reset each count. So in this case 'e' becomes the thumb (so you sort of count it twice like this).
If you're really in a hurry on this it is a good guess that y,c is the correct response because this is the only answer that has a letter AFTER 'u'.

A crofter has to get to his herd of sheep quickly as he has been told they are being attacked by a dog. His sheep are on the other side of a steep hill. He can run over the hill (3 km) at 4 km an hour, or take his tractor via an old dirt track which is 5 km at an average of 6 km an hour or he can drive his car along a very narrow winding road but this is 14 km and he can only go at 18 km an hour on average.
Which method should he choose?
(km = kilometres)
Correct Answer
A. Running
Explanation
This question requires basic multiplication and division skills. It is numerical reasoning really.
Running:
3km at 4km per hour = 3 / 4 = 0.75 so 60 minutes x 0.75 = 45 minutes
Tractor:
5km at 6km per hour = 5/6 which you can see equals 50 / 60 minutes so that = 50 minutes
Car:
14km at 18km per hour:
This one is bigger numbers but the same principle. We know that the nearest even numbers are 15 / 20 which would equal 0.75 (the same time as running). However, the numerator (14 is a smaller drop than the denominator (18) so the answer is going to slightly higher. So you can estimate the car will take more time than running.
(The exact answer shows us our estimation is correct: 14/18 = 0.77 and 0.77 x 60 minutes = 46 minutes)
So the answer is therefore 'running' as it is the shortest time.

You spend 56 dollars in total on a cactus, a stuffed kangaroo and a puncture repair kit. The cactus costs twice as much as the puncture repair kit and the stuffed kangaroo double the price of the cactus.
How many dollars did the cactus cost?
Correct Answer
B. 16
Explanation
You must quickly identify the following facts in your head (or on scrap paper)
The puncture repair kit is cheapest.
The cactus is the middle priced (costing twice the puncture repair kit)
The stuffed kangaroo is the most expensive (costing twice the cactus)
As you are given options here, if you can't quickly do the algebra to solve this you can always start with the middle number.
In this case lets use 18 which is a middle sample of the possible options. This would make the puncture kit $9, the cactus $18 and the kangaroo $36. So 9 + 18 + 36 = 63. This is over our required answer of $56 but only by a bit, so at this point the answer 16 is a good guess. We can confirm this below:
8 + 16 + 32 = 56

Athos, Portos and Aramis live in three adjoining houses.
Aramis has a black cat called d'Artagnan,
Portos has a white dog whereas Athos has a red herring.
Portos has a neighbour with a red door.
The owner of a four legged animal has a blue door.
Either a feline or fish owner has a green door.
Aramis and Portos are not neighbours.
Whose door is red?
Correct Answer
C. Athos
Explanation
There are only a few facts you need to determine who has the red door. You can quickly eliminate incorrect answers like this:
Portos: Has has a neighbour with a red door (so his must have the blue or green door)
Aramis: Portos and Aramis are not neighbours (and Portos is neighbours with the red door)
Therefore it can only be Athos with the red door. The other facts listed can confirm this but are not necessary. This is why it is always good to quickly read the actual question (in the case about the door) before reading the full text. That way you know what you are looking for.

Simon, Cheryl and Dannii are all going by train to London to watch a singing competition.
Cheryl gets the 2.15 pm train.
Simon's train journey takes 50% longer than Dannii's.
Simon catches the 3.00 train.
Dannii leaves 20 minutes after Cheryl and arrives at 3.25 pm.
When will Simon arrive?
Correct Answer
C. 4:15
Explanation
The logic follows:
Dannii leaves at 2:35 (20 minutes after Cheryl) and arrives 50 minutes later (at 3:25)
Simon's journey takes 75 minutes (50 minutes plus 25 minutes because 50% of 50 = 25)
Simon arrived at 4:15 (75 minutes after he left at 3:00).
Understanding your basic addition and division will help in this type of question.

5 bricklayers can lay a total of 50 bricks in 30 minutes.
How many bricklayers will be required to lay a total of 60 bricks in 20 minutes?
Correct Answer
B. 9
Explanation
You can calculate the hourly rate of each bricklayer like this:
5 bricklayers laying 50 bricks in 30 minutes means 1 bricklayer will lay 10 bricks in 30 minutes. So 1 bricklayer will lay 20 bricks in 60 minutes (1 hour)
Now we can see that to lay 60 bricks in 20 minutes we need a rate of bricklaying of 180 bricks per hour. (because 20 x 3 = 60 minutes so 60 x 3 = 180 bricks in 60 minutes)
So the number of bricklayers to lay at this pace is 180 bricks in an hour divided by the rate of one bricklayer (20 bricks per hour) So this is 180 / 20 which is 9. So the answer is 9 bricklayers.

An old treasure map has the following instructions:
Stand next to the black rock and face West.
Walk 20 metres and then turn 90 degrees clockwise.
Walk another 10 metres and then turn 45 degrees anticlockwise.
Walk another 15 metres, turn around 180 degrees.
Turn 45 degrees clockwise and walk another 10 metres.
In which direction are you now facing?
Correct Answer
D. S
Explanation
The distances are not relevant to the question. So track the direction through each stage. You can do this in your head or use your hand like a compass face and follow each stage like this:
Start: West
Turn 90 degrees clockwise. Now you are facing North.
Turn 45 degrees anti-clockwise. Now you are facing North West.
Turn around 180 degrees. Now you are facing South East.
Turn 45 degrees clockwise. now you are facing South.
This is one of the few questions that translates well to actual police work because you must know your cardinal points, north south east west in order to navigate, give directions and follow directions. In an emergency this knowledge can save lives.
