Chapter 2: Step One
What Do I Want to Achieve?
There are some vital issues which you need to consider before starting to write an email or letter.
Do you need to contact them at all?
Can you sort out the issue or problem satisfactorily without contacting them?
Think of all the costs involved in writing a letter, from the time taken to draft, revise and type it, through to equipment and material costs.
In this chapter you will learn step one, “what do I want to achieve?”
Chapter 3: Step Two
What Shall I Say
The next step in the process is to assemble the ideas, facts or topics which will form the text of the letter. This technique is called brainstorm. The key to success is to treat this step quite differently from actually writing the email or letter, otherwise you are trying to do two difficult tasks at once. Assemble all the ideas first, then decide on the best sequence later.
In this chapter you will learn step two “What shall I say?”
